Care and Maintenances
Cleaning the kitchen may seems like as utterly daunting task but if you practice regular care, maintaining a good-looking kitchen won’t be as hard as you think. The key to long-term use of your kitchen is to immediately clean any dirt and grime to prevent undesirable build-up of tough residue which will be harder to clean in long run.
The worktop is probably the most frequently used area of the kitchen and require different methods of maintenance. It is best to treat your countertop surface with the recommended cleaning agents to withstand daily use and for long term protection.
How to maintain?
The kitchen worktop should not be used as a cutting surface or it will be marred with knife marks. Immediately clean up any pools od liquids such as wine, oils and juices, as they may be absorbed and will stain the surface of your worktop if left for too long.
Quartz worktops may be highly heat resistance, but it is still advisable to use trivets or any protection pads for hot pots, pans and other hot objects. Also avoid sliding porcelain and crockery across laminated surfaces as this may cause unsightly scratches.
To maintain, shine and prevent the loss of sheen of your worktop, use a non-abrasive polish or any cleaner that is specially designed for surface shine
Here are some useful tips to guide you in cleaning:
Cleaning Surfaces
- Use soap water or ammonia-based cleansing agent.
- Rub gently on the surface using a smooth cloth/fine sponge only.
Removing Scratches (Solid surface)
- Matte finishing: Sand the surface using a 180-grit sandpaper until scratches disappear, then clean with soap and water.
- Semi-gloss finishing: Sand the surface using a 400 grit sandpaper until scratches disappear, then clean with soap and water.
- Gloss finishing: Sand the surface using a 400 grit sandpaper, followed by a 600 grit sandpaper until scratches disappear, then clean with soap and water.
*All the above sanding and polishing should be done in a circular motion
The Dos and Don’ts
- Always use a hot pad or trivet under heat producing appliances when placing them on surfaces. Avoid putting high temperature objects directly on surfaces.
